Old fashioned baking is the best, the recipes are quick, easy, economical and usually made using pantry staples.
My Nana made one like this I’m not sure if this is her recipe I’ve been making for years but it tastes just like it and every time I have a piece of it I remember her.
Using just a few ingredients and a bowl this one ticks all the boxes its chocolatey, fudgy and delicious so give it a try, its perfect for lunchboxes, morning tea and it freezes well.
Chocolate Fudge Bars
Baked chocolate and coconut slice
Ingredients
- 200 gm Butter, melted
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 3/4 Cup Sugar
- 1 1/2 Tbsp Cocoa
- 1 Egg
- 1 1/4 Cup Coconut
- 1 1/2 Cups Plain flour
Icing
- 50 gm Butter, softened
- 2 tsp Cocoa
- 2 Cups Icing Mixture
- 1-2 Tbsp Boiling Water
Instructions
- Preheat oven 160C.
- Line a slice tray with baking paper.
- In a large bowl combine the melted butter, sugar, vanilla, cocoa and egg.
- Stir in the coconut and flour, mix until well combined.
- Press into lined slice tray.
- Bake for 25 minutes, remove from the oven and cool for 30 minutes.
Icing
- Combine butter, icing mixture, cocoa and enough boiling water to make a thick smooth icing.
- Spread the icing over warm slice and sprinkle with a little coconut, allow to cool in the tin.
- Cut into pieces anywhere from 12 to 36.
Notes
Make sure to ice the slice while still warm.
Store in an airtight container for 5 days.
Slice freezes well.
