Shepherds Pie
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 500 gm Minced Lamb or Beef
- 1/2 Onion, finely diced or grated
- 1 Carrot, diced or grated
- 1 Parsnip, grated Optional
- 1/2 Zucchini, grated optional
- 2 Tbsp Gravox powder
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 Tbsp Tomato Sauce
- 1 Cup Water
- Pinch White Pepper
- 2-3 Large Potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 1/3 Cup Milk
- 3/4 Cup Tasty Cheese, grated Optional
- 2 Tbsp Butter, extra, Small dice
Instructions
- Heat oil in fry pan over medium heat, add onion and lamb or beef, stirring to break up any lumps, cook until browned 4-5 minutes.
- Add carrot, parsnip and zucchini cook a further 3-4 minutes.
- Combine gravy powder, sauces, pepper and water, whisk until smooth.
- Preheat oven 170C
- Stir into the meat mixture and bring to the boil, simmer for 20 minutes.
- Pour meat into greased 2Lt oven proof dish or into individual ramekin dishes.
- In saucepan cover potatoes with water bring to the boil and simmer 20 minutes or until potatoes are cooked.
- Drain water off and mash potatoes, add butter and milk, mash until smooth.
- Spoon potatoes on top of the meat and sprinkle with cheese and dot with butter.
- Bake in oven for 30-40 minutes until the top is browned.
- Serve with a salad or steamed vegetables.

Making Shepherds Pie is simple, the mince is cooked in a gravy, placed in an oven-proof dish and topped with mashed potatoes then baked in the oven until bubbling and browned on top.
Shepherds Pie is a perfect dish to pre-prepare in the morning or the night before or even pop it in the freezer to then be baked when required on those busy days.
