We called these Mock Fish in our family and my goodness they went down a treat. Poor mum couldn’t keep up with us, we were eating them as soon as they hit the table.
They are basically just grated potatoes and shallow fried, so its a very economical meal or side dish but very delicious.
Mock Fish
Grated Potato Cakes
Ingredients
- 4-5 Large Potatoes Peeled
- 1/2 Onion grated
- 2-3 Tbsp Plain Flour Gluten Free is Fine
- 1 Egg
- Pinch Salt
- Pinch Pepper
- Vegetable Oil to shallow fry
Instructions
- Grate potatoes, place into new chux or muslin
- Squeeze out excess liquid from potatoes
- Combine all remaining ingredients except oil
- Over medium heat, heat oil in a fry pan and drop spoonful's into oil, cook 5-10 minutes
- Turn and cook on other side a further 5-10 minutes or until golden
- Drain on kitchen paper, keep warm in a low oven whilst cooking remaining mixture
- Serve with a generous sprinkle of salt.
