I have been making this recipe for over 30 years, it was a popular dish in my café where I would normally serve it with rice or potatoes. I originally found the recipe in a very old hard cover Women’s Weekly cook book and it was called Steak Normandy (I’m not really sure why).
It is a recipe that is best prepared the night before to marinate the meat, then all you need to do is to bake in the oven for 2 1/2 hours, and the end result is tender garlicy pieces of beef casserole topped with crispy bacon.
Serve it with mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, steamed rice or buttered pasta along with vegetables. It is a great dish to take to a shared meal and always gets great reviews.
